2nd grade math book

IloveMathLast weekend, I mentioned to my husband that I was ready to pick up some freelance writing again and that I needed to call some of the publishers for whom I'd previously worked. Before I could make those calls, I got one from an old contact with  a 2nd grade math book they needed written. Very nice.

BUT I hate starting a project. I have to get my mind wrapped around the requirements, then I have to get it wrapped around the content. I'm fine after I get both those things done, but until then . . . *bleh* Today's been spent wrapping my brain. Hopefully, by the time I wake up tomorrow, I'll be ready to start writing. *fingers crossed*

An irritation with Kindle

I don't have the device itself, but the program is loaded on my computers and iPod Touch. I never paid much attention to the little location thingy because I just plowed through a book. BUT and this is huge, I finally was able to buy a Kindle textbook and I was so excited until I'm to use a rubric on page 129. No problem. I can't figure it out, but it's got to be able to convert to page numbers. I hit Google with my question. And the answer is: ding, ding, ding It can't be done! There isn't a way to convert. What's more, Amazon has told multiple students that their way is superior. APA style even has a citation using Kindle locations. Well, whoopdidoo. That doesn't do a student trying to find a specific location in a book a lick of good. Nook on the other hand (who I have not been supporting as much as Kindle) does have page numbers. Guess who will be getting my ebook business in the future?

over a month

Here I sit wondering why it's been over a month since I've posted. Not really wondering. I know exactly why. School started. Grad school followed. In the last month, I've written well over 20 lessons, developed daily quizzes, written online tests and lessons, trained the staff on how to use a new program hooked into the state evaluation system. I edited a small math book on analogies as well as worked an open house and a back to school night along with working my way through cataloging lessons - some of which were less than successful. I've made some new friends in the way of colleagues and fellow students. I've chosen to work alone and at times with others. I attended my first Circle meeting at Home Moravian and signed up to work two candle teas in December. Ron and I have been to two WFU football games and attended an AIA dinner at the Biltmore last weekend which was a really tasty affair. I've spent precious time with my oldest son.
