Cleaning out the garage

I don't have a garage, so you can imagine where I've been putting everything - closets, cabinets, drawers. A couple of weekends ago, I decided it was time for some of the things that I'd been saving in anticipation of using one day to go. I've cleaned out closets, book cases, cabinets. I cleaned out teaching files and reorganized them. I've filled the car up several times over. AND you know the sad part? I could probably spend the next two weeks doing the same thing.

Why do we hold on to things like this? I've kept boxes from when I was selling on eBay. I've kept egg cartons to make into games. I've kept lettuce and fage tubs because they'd be great to use at school. I've got stamps and stickers and paper and folders and . . . AND I don't keep nearly the things some people I know keep. I'm actually pretty good about getting rid of things - unless they have some foreseen purpose down the rode.

One of the things I've kept is LifeWay curriculum units that I wrote mmmm 20 years ago. I'm in the process of taking pictures and scanning those now.

Cleaning out feels really good!

An irritation with Kindle

I don't have the device itself, but the program is loaded on my computers and iPod Touch. I never paid much attention to the little location thingy because I just plowed through a book. BUT and this is huge, I finally was able to buy a Kindle textbook and I was so excited until I'm to use a rubric on page 129. No problem. I can't figure it out, but it's got to be able to convert to page numbers. I hit Google with my question. And the answer is: ding, ding, ding It can't be done! There isn't a way to convert. What's more, Amazon has told multiple students that their way is superior. APA style even has a citation using Kindle locations. Well, whoopdidoo. That doesn't do a student trying to find a specific location in a book a lick of good. Nook on the other hand (who I have not been supporting as much as Kindle) does have page numbers. Guess who will be getting my ebook business in the future?

over a month

Here I sit wondering why it's been over a month since I've posted. Not really wondering. I know exactly why. School started. Grad school followed. In the last month, I've written well over 20 lessons, developed daily quizzes, written online tests and lessons, trained the staff on how to use a new program hooked into the state evaluation system. I edited a small math book on analogies as well as worked an open house and a back to school night along with working my way through cataloging lessons - some of which were less than successful. I've made some new friends in the way of colleagues and fellow students. I've chosen to work alone and at times with others. I attended my first Circle meeting at Home Moravian and signed up to work two candle teas in December.
