So where is NC Education Lottery money going?

I hear this a lot. I've asked it myself. This was pretty informative.
Shaheen said 50 percent of lottery proceeds go to reducing classroom sizes by keeping the teacher-student ratio down. Forty percent is allocated for new buildings. The remaining 10 percent goes to scholarships for students who qualify for the Pell Grant, which is financial aid given to low-income students.

"The biggest misconception that people have is that the lottery is going to cover all of education," Shaheen said.

WSFCS and GCS are listed in this paragraph.
So far, Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools have received $36 million from the lottery. Guilford County Schools have received $57 million. With $95 million in benefits, Mecklenburg County has received more money from the lottery than any other school district in the state.

The little video attached mentioned that WSFCS has built new schools with the money and GCS has used to the money to pay off bonds.

An irritation with Kindle

I don't have the device itself, but the program is loaded on my computers and iPod Touch. I never paid much attention to the little location thingy because I just plowed through a book. BUT and this is huge, I finally was able to buy a Kindle textbook and I was so excited until I'm to use a rubric on page 129. No problem. I can't figure it out, but it's got to be able to convert to page numbers. I hit Google with my question. And the answer is: ding, ding, ding It can't be done! There isn't a way to convert. What's more, Amazon has told multiple students that their way is superior. APA style even has a citation using Kindle locations. Well, whoopdidoo. That doesn't do a student trying to find a specific location in a book a lick of good. Nook on the other hand (who I have not been supporting as much as Kindle) does have page numbers. Guess who will be getting my ebook business in the future?

over a month

Here I sit wondering why it's been over a month since I've posted. Not really wondering. I know exactly why. School started. Grad school followed. In the last month, I've written well over 20 lessons, developed daily quizzes, written online tests and lessons, trained the staff on how to use a new program hooked into the state evaluation system. I edited a small math book on analogies as well as worked an open house and a back to school night along with working my way through cataloging lessons - some of which were less than successful. I've made some new friends in the way of colleagues and fellow students. I've chosen to work alone and at times with others. I attended my first Circle meeting at Home Moravian and signed up to work two candle teas in December.
