56 days of summer - 14

Today is the 4th of July. American Independence. I watched a sad video where people could tell what they do on the day but not what the day represents. I was going to make a comment, but then I saw two posts in the few on the screen that bashed teachers for this lack of knowledge. I don't know about you, but I did not need to go to school to know what we celebrate on July 4!

The day was not much different for me (since it is one of my summer days!). It was a beautiful day, so I read on the back deck for a while finishing Adrenaline. Then I:

  • Cut out letters for banners in the library.

  • Worked on the student page of the library website.

  • Got a few station activities started.

  • Cleaned out my desk and the office closet. (Which means a boatload of stuff for recycling and the shredder.)

  • Started looking over the assignment for the 5th grade math book.

  • Cooked out on the same deck ;)

  • Watched all of season 1 of The Paradise. This is a cute show if you haven't looked at it yet. There are only 8 shows in the first season.

  • I also watched a movie called Today's Special which was surprisingly funny. That was nice after I thought it might just be stupid. I've started too many shows or movies lately that just can't hold my attention.

Five TV Shows I Enjoy

I don't watch TV exactly, but I do have shows line up in my HULU queue, so I do watch those at my convenience. M erlin - this is a sci-fi channel show. I've been an Merlin fan since I was a kid and read The Once and Future King. Merlin and Arthur are both young men in this one. Lie to Me - I love Tim Roth's sassy character and the way he always gets the best of someone by psychoanalyzing them. Fringe - Another sci-fi show, but on ABC. It's just weird at times. Dual universes. Reminds me a bit of Sliders, but much darker and ominous. Characters have developed nicely. Always some very odd twist. FlashForward - I like this one enough I wanna buy the book to see how they compare/contrast. World changing event happens where everyone sees a glimpse of  their futures for the same time period. FBI is trying to find out why and how it happened - how to keep it from happening again. Lots of intrigue. mmmmm that's only 4 DollHouse - didn't make it. This show

Changing denominations

A little over a year ago, when I left my job at the church and walked away to find a new one, I also left my church. The church, that church, the old church? For 17 years, it had been my church and then it was not. Ron and I had taught more classes than I can remember - together and apart. We worked with discipleship, new members and of course, the library. The boys spent their teenage years there and were in countless programs, went to numerous camps as campers and then as counselors. They went on mission trips and made their first international trips with this church. But the time had come to go. We had different jobs and Ron continued teaching Sunday School until the year ended. I didn't go anywhere in that time period. It was in many ways a time of healing. A few people knew why I wasn't there.
